On October 12, Sam Newman from Suay Ceramics presented his work via Zoom.
Born in Western Pennsylvania and the rolling hills of Appalachia, Sam Newman grew up in a diminishing steel town. The blue collar work ethic with themes of practicality and community were core values that informed his childhood. He was introduced to clay as a business major at Penn State. In 2014, he moved to Portland, Oregon, and, to this day, working with clay, nurturing a studio practice, and building community resonate with the values that defined his childhood.
