FVPG June 2025 Soda Fire

Here is the information for participating in the FVPG Soda Fire

  • You must use a ^10 clay body: P700, H570, H550, H555, Bmix etc. (not H490) Ask me if you have questions or if you are unsure about your clay choice, please!

  • Some members do not have their own kilns and may have to rely on a community centre or a friend. "Reply all" here to see if any of us can help in your area?

  • If you plan on re-firing any work, re-fires must be re-bisqued to remove any possible moisture so they don't blow up and destroy others' works.

  • If you are using flashing slips, there are many choices on our glaze day but if you have a chance to spray or dip before you bisque, the glazing will be easier. I have attached some photos of some of the flashing slips and glazes available as well as some recipes.

  •  Space allotment is .6 cubic feet each which equals: 12' x 10" x 9" or 30cm x 25cm x 23cm.

  •  You will all be measured on June 18 before you glaze and wad.

Please make 1/3 of your work over 9" so that we have taller pots to fill up the arch spaces. If everything is short then we end up using a ton of shelves = more clean-up at the unloading and also less soda ash covering pots! Also, plates should stack as they take up too much space, as much as a shelf, and plates may not get in. Widths should be less than 12" as the shelves are 16" square, not very wide, and we need room for 3 x 2" posts for all the shelves but the top.

Also, keep really small pieces to a minimum and 2"-3" tall pieces can be fillers around larger pieces. Plan your work to puzzle in nicely with different shapes. Contact Cheryl with any pressing questions..
